Whats been happening?
Update: As a result of this blog I have now been quoted in Revolent's blog here.
Also during the time between the client leaving and being stood down I started on Salesforce Trailhead. For those who down know what Trailhead is it's a fun platform for learning Salesforce skills. It's gamified so you earn points and badges and work your way up the ranks. You also get a Trailblazer profile showing your skills breakdown, badges, points and rank. It might not be too impressive to some employers but some love it and if not your showing how keen you are.
Anyway I focused on the developer modules and loved it. When i learnt Apex the proprietary programming language i was like wow this is almost like Java. I took to it quickly and did as many modules as I could. The only down side once i investigated more about Salesforce is that you need experience to get a Salesforce job. I was put off and continued learning but didn't expect to find work unless my employer landed a new Salesforce client which was unlikely.
After being stood down I started the search for a job in vein. Then i came across a ad for a company called Revolent Group. They promised 10 weeks training in Salesforce then placement, this was a dream opportunity and would be my one and only chance to bridge the gap between learning Salesforce and getting that crucial experience. I applied unsure how I would go and got a call the next day. I was given a coding test in Java and passed so got a video call interview, wasn't sure how i went but later given a second interview and passed and offered a role. I was thrilled and excited this was my opportunity. I was only made more proud to know I was part of the first group in Australia, they already had recruits in the UK and US but it was a first for us.
It's now 4 weeks in and I have passed the Salesforce Certified Administrator exam. Next i'm preparing for the Developer 1 exam before getting professional training. I'm also Ranger rank on Trailhead (top rank) and things are looking up.
